Calcot Cottage

Calcot Cottage was set up in 1990 and provides a safe, loving environment for up to 4 children and young people aged between 5 and 18 on admission on a fifty two week basis.

Calcot Cottage is run by a compassionate, committed team of staff on therapeutic community principles in conjunction with a range of methods that includes the use of play, direct work about such topics as keeping safe, life story work, counselling and rewards systems. We provide psychiatric assessment, psychotherapy and play work where appropriate. Groups are held daily and we believe that how children develop in the home environment - that living and learning together - are as important as more formal treatment methods and that the two are closely integrated and inform each other. Ultimately, external professionals work closely with staff to inform each other’s practice. Our home is a beautiful, modernised 17th century building set in a quarter of an acre of grounds just outside Reading and close to all amenities.
