Palmera

Palmera is a thriving therapeutic independence unit which caters for four young people. It was set up in 1993 originally to cater for a sibling group.

Palmera was registered in July 2001 with the purpose of maintaining the CSfC ethos, whilst providing the highest possible standard of care for adolescents and young adults (12 to 19) of both genders. Many of our young people have previously experienced difficulties in childhood and adolescence which have led to multiple placement breakdowns. At Palmera we aim to repair these damaging experiences by strengthening healthy attachment in long term placements whilst developing skills for life after care. This is done by a strong, dedicated and experienced staff team who seek to empower young people to live independently whilst meeting their individual needs.

During their time with us, our young people will receive understanding, encouragement and support from adults who are trained to work in a professional and non judgmental way. The adults in the home display genuine care and concern for our young people and work tirelessly to lead them towards reaching their full potential, in addition to preparing them for the journey and responsibilities of future citizenship. We believe that each young person is an individual and is entitled to respect, courtesy and full recognition of his or her rights. Our young people are praised and rewarded for positive behaviour and are equally supported, encouraged and helped in times of anxiety and negativity.

Palmera is a modern 4 bedroom house, beautifully furnished creating a comfortable and cosy living environment which reflects that of a family atmosphere. Adults endeavour to encourage the young person to feel very much part of a family by participating in the daily running of the house and by developing relevant, semi-independent living skills that will ultimately assist them in later life. Palmera is situated in the West of Reading and is conveniently close to all amenities.
